–A Lakota man was taken into custody after leading law enforcement on a pursuit through northern Kossuth County Friday morning.
According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies assisted the Iowa State Patrol with a traffic stop near Lakota around 9AM Friday. The driver, identified as 41-year-old Jose Luis Renteria of Lakota, failed to stop for marked patrol vehicles that had lights and sirens activated, leading to a pursuit through Lakota and north on Highway 169.
Renteria continued to elude law enforcement by leaving the highway and entering an acreage driveway, eventually driving into a field before backing into a patrol vehicle and getting stuck. At that time, he was arrested and charged with:
–Eluding Law Enforcement—2nd or subsequent offense, a Class C Felony.
–Reckless Driving
–Failure to Obey a Stop Sign
–Driving without a Valid License
Renteria was booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance.
Several social media posts Friday raised concerns about the increased law enforcement presence in the county, prompting the Sheriff’s Office to release a statement saying this was not an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation.
