Franklin County Woman Involved in Accident Near Wesley Tuesday

–A North Central Iowa woman may have suffered a medical episode prior to a single-vehicle accident along Highway 18 near Wesley Tuesday night.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Carley Ballhagen of Sheffield was eastbound on Highway 18 in a 2002 Lincoln Town Car just after 9 PM Tuesday. The accident report states that Ballhagen felt the back of the vehicle kick out, causing her to fishtail and lose control as she approached intersection with Iowa Highway 17 north of Wesley.

Ballhagen’s vehicle entered the west-bound lane, before spinning and entering the south ditch where it struck a utility pole owned by Alliant Energy.

Ballhagen informed Deputies she has a history of seizures and could not remember everything that happened during the accident. She reported possible injuries and was transported by law enforcement to an Algona residence before seeking treatment. The accident report shows that Ballhagen was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $1,500, while damage to the utility pole was estimated at $100.
