–Voters in the North Kossuth School District will head to the polls today to decide whether to increase the district’s Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL).

The ballot measure would increase the district’s PPEL levy to $1.00 per $1,000 of valuation. School officials are requesting the increase to fund facility improvements to the Swea City building, including the addition of a secure main entrance, a roof replacement, along with various exterior repairs.

If approved, the estimated tax impact for a residential home with a value of $100,000 would be around $3.31 a month, while a commercial property with a value of $150,000 would see a monthly increase of about $5.57. North Kossuth School Board President Chris Hardt explained the efforts in a video posted to YouTube.

Polls will be open from 7AM until 8 PM at the First Baptist Fellowship Hall in Swea City, the Eagle Center in Lakota, and the Summit Center in Bancroft for voters in the North Kossuth District.
