–The Algona School Board approved the district’s calendar for the 2026-2027 school year during their meeting Monday night. Superintendent Joe Carter says the calendar will once again be based on the total number of hours spent in the classroom as opposed to the number of days.
The calendar includes a holiday break from December 21-January 1 and a spring break from March 15-19. Dr. Brent Owen says having that time away is beneficial for families who may need to travel during those breaks.
Carter says they’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback since the decision was made to have a full week for spring break.
Staff development will once again be held on Monday’s each month throughout the school-year, with the exception of November.
