–One of the 3 Democrats seeking their party’s nomination in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District will hold a public forum in Algona Saturday morning. Dave Dawson is an attorney from Lawton in Woodbury County. In an interview with KLGA News, Dawson says he was motivated to enter this race following federal budget cuts to Medicaid in 2025 that reduced the program’s budget by over a trillion dollars.

The former state legislator has held events in 32 of the district’s 36 counties since entering the race in September, and he says he has gotten a wide range of people to attend his events.

Dawson served 2 terms in the Iowa House, first winning election in 2012 before being reelected in 2014. After deciding not to run again in 2016, Dawson was unsuccessful in a bid for the Iowa Senate in 2018. This time around, he’s competing against Stephanie Steiner of Sutherland and Ashley Wolf-Tornabane of Storm Lake in the June 2nd primary.

The public forum will begin at 10 AM Saturday inside the Active Seniors Center in Algona. Dawson also has another public event in Lake Mills Saturday afternoon before wrapping up his swing through our area with a stop in Garner Monday night.
