–A proposal to move the county’s EMS facility off the grounds of Kossuth Regional Health Center has fizzled after the latest project costs were revealed this week. KRHC officials proposed purchasing the EMS garage and office space from the county in late 2025 in an effort to expand their lab space. In February, the Kossuth County Board of Supervisors hired Bergland and Cram Architects out of Mason City to estimate what it would cost to put EMS into the county owned building on Phillips Street in Algona. An initial cost estimate between $2.3-$2.9 Million was pared down by about $600,000, but hospital officials say that even with that reduction, the price remains too high. During their meeting Tuesday, Supervisor’s Chairman Carter Nath shared his thoughts on the future of the project.

Nath says nothing about the effort was a waste of time.

KRHC CEO Dar Elbert thanked the board for considering the proposal and told them the hospital will look at other ways to add the needed lab space.
