Bishop Garrigan 12
Algona 11 (8)

-The Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears prevailed over the Algona Bulldogs 12-11 in 8 innings on Tuesday night in the crosstown game, as Carter Schwab’s walk off base hit in the 8th lifted the Golden Bears to a season opening win.

Bishop Garrigan built a 7-2 lead before Algona roared back in the 5th, scoring 6 runs during an inning in which the Golden Bears issued 5 walks, and taking an 8-7 lead.  In the 6th, Algona scored 3 more, grabbing a run on a double steal, followed by an RBI triple from Aiden Engel, before a wild pitch brought in a 3rd run to make the score 11-7.

Bishop Garrigan fought back for 2 in the bottom of the 6th after the inning started with 2 outs and nobody on base, as Henry Bode singled and Brad Meister walked ahead of Tate Foertsch, who hit a 2 run double.

In the 7th, Algona had Bishop Garrigan down to their last strike twice, but a pair of errors eventually left the door open for Eli Casey to tie the game with a two out, two run single, before Schwab walked the game off in the 8th

Bishop Garrigan starts the season 1-0 and will not play again until Tuesday, May 26th against Belmond-Klemme, while 1-1 Algona will take on Iowa Falls-Alden today and finish off game two of Monday’s doubleheader that was postponed with Algona leading 3-0.
