–Law Enforcement officials in Emmet County have released details after northwest Iowa man was taken into custody at a campground near Estherville Monday morning.
According to the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies received a report just before 9AM Monday of a man entering vehicles that did not belong to him in the campground area of Fort Defiance State Park. The suspect was reportedly only wearing shorts and had allegedly been involved in an altercation with one of the vehicle’s owners.
When Deputies arrived, they learned the suspect had fled into wooded areas of the park, at which time they asked for assistance and set up a perimeter in the area.
Just after 10:30 AM, another report came in of a man only wearing shorts laying in a ditch near the park, allowing law enforcement officials to narrow their search area.
Around 11:30 AM, a man matching the description of the suspect approached law enforcement and was taken into custody. He was identified as 28-year-old Dalton Scott Burdorf of Emmetsburg.
Burdorf was booked into the Emmet County Jail on 3 counts of 3rd Degree Burglary (Aggravated Misdemeanor), Trespassing (Simple Misdemeanor), and Providing False Identification Information (Simple Misdemeanor). He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on June 5th in Emmet County District Court.
