–Algona scored 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning and then held on late to upend Newman Catholic 6-5 Thursday night in Mason City. Jaxon Eischen had 3 hits and Aiden Engel drove in a pair of runs for the Bulldog offense, while Tate Garman held the Knight’s bats in check over 5 innings on the mound. Garman allowed 2 runs on 5 hits over 5 innings of work, walking 3 and striking out 5. Engel got the final six outs to pick up the save, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits, walking 1 and striking out 3. Algona (6-3) will be back in action Monday when they travel to Clear Lake for a North Central Conference doubleheader.
