–The 27th annual “Founder’s Day” celebration officially kicks off Thursday with various activities throughout the day, including the “Voices from the Past” presentation at Riverview Cemetery. Jane Nettleton with the Algona chapter of the AAUW helps to organize the event each year, and she tells KLGA News that they have performers from across the country ready to bring the past alive.

Members of the AAUW and the Kossuth County Genealogical Society team up to research each person featured from Algona’s past, as Nettleton says she has wanted to feature Bertha Sundet for some time now.

The performance will begin around 6 PM, after the new “Spirit of Algona” and “Algona Impact” awards are presented.

If the weather does not cooperate Thursday evening, “Voices from the Past” will be moved to the Tietz Entrepreneurial Center on the Algona Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College. Anyone who can’t make it Thursday can catch an encore performance Sunday at 2PM, which will also be held at the Tietz Center. For a complete list of Founder’s Day activities, go to www.algona.org.
