–An Iowa History Professor and Author will give a presentation in Bancroft tonight detailing some of the drastic changes that occurred across Iowa in the 1800’s. Kevin Mason is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Northern Iowa, and he tells KLGA News that research for his book, entitled “Retracing the Dragoon Trail”, took him on a lengthy adventure across the state.
The first Dragoon expedition took place 9 years before Iowa became a state, when all sorts of changes were taking place in the area.
Mason’s journey across the state took him nearly 3 weeks to complete.
The stop in Bancroft is the first of four across Northwest Iowa this week for Mason, who says the book has received positive feedback from the public since it was released earlier this year.
The free presentation will begin at 6 PM inside the Bancroft Public Library. In addition to his research, Mason is the founder of Notes on Iowa, a digital public history platform that reaches more than 3 million users each week across social media and the web. “Retracing the Dragoon Trail” is available at bookstores across the country and at www.msupress.org.
