–Kossuth County will seek grant funding to upgrade safety signage at nearly a dozen rural intersections where accidents have occurred over the last decade. County Engineer Doug Miller discussed the application with the Board of Supervisors during their meeting on Tuesday. Miller says he used the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Crash Analysis Tool to look at accidents in Kossuth County on paved rural roads that were caused by a driver running a stop sign since 2016.
The funding would come from the DOT’s Traffic Safety Improvement Program (TSIP).
Upgrades have already been made to the intersection of County Roads B40 & P30 west of Algona following a fatal crash there earlier this year, so Miller did not include that intersection in the grant application. The intersections marked for additional warning signs include:
** P16 & A42—North of Fenton
** B30 & P20—Northwest of Algona
** B44 & P20—East of Whittemore
** B58 & P56—Between Algona and Lu Verne
** A42 & P60—East of Bancroft
** P66 & B14—East of Titonka
** P60 & B14—West of Titonka
** P44 & A42—South of Bancroft
** P50 & A16—North of Ledyard
** R14 & A42—Northeast of Titonka
** P56 & C12—West of Lu Verne
