–Kossuth Regional Health Center is adding a new piece of technology to their surgery department that will bring leading-edge, minimally invasive procedures to patients in the local community.

KRHC announced the addition of the Da Vinci 5 (DV5) Surgical Robot this week, known to staff members as “Kevin”. The innovative robotic system will support physicians in performing both general and gynecologic procedures.

By allowing surgeons to make smaller and more precise incisions, patients can see reduced pain and improved recovery times following procedures.

The Da Vinci 5 system was developed and introduced by Intuitive Surgical following more than a decade of research and testing. It received approval by the US Food and Drug Administration in March of 2024.

Officials at KRHC say the introduction of this technology is a significant step forward for enhanced patient care in north central Iowa, and ensures that patients can access sophisticated treatment options without traveling far from home.
