–The City of Algona announced the hiring of Channing Nielsen as the new Public Works Director this week.
Nielsen officially started his duties on August 31st. He brings with him 15 years of operational and management experience in industrial mining, infrastructure operations, and construction management from his time at Falkirk Mining Company in North Dakota.
Most recently, Nielsen served as a construction supervisor with Mitigation Resources of North America. In that role, he spent the majority of his time in Tennessee where he oversaw a 900-acre environmental restoration project along the Tennessee River.
In addition he has experience in both operating and managing fleets of heavy equipment, supervising employees, and implementing safety programs.
Nielsen will oversee the services and staff within the Public Works Department, which includes the airport, cemetery, streets, parks, and wastewater treatment plant.
