–Some customers of Algona Municipal Utilities will soon pay more for electricity after rate increases were approved earlier this month. The AMU Board of Trustees approved the hikes during their meeting last week after receiving an updated rate study in August. AMU General Manager John Bilsten tells KLGA News that report looks at the rates charged to customers in four different categories.
Residential customers will see a slight increase, but small businesses could see their bills decrease.
Industrial customers will see their bills increase depending on usage rates.
Bilsten says the board also received information on establishing rates for businesses that use large loads of electricity.
Currently only 1 business would fall into this large electric load class, but Bilsten says they want to make sure they are ready if things change.
