The two candidates running for Iowa’s fourth district seat in the U-S House offered different approaches to lowering gas prices during a televised debate Wednesday night at KTIV in Sioux City. Republican Chris McGowan, the former President of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce, said completing the Keystone XL pipeline would have brought more oil into the U.S.
Democrat Dave Dawson, an Assistant Woodbury County Attorney, said there is a direct way to lower prices now.
Both candidates expressed concerns about labor shortages. McGowan says he supports temporary visas for foreign workers.
Dawson agreed that Iowa can use workers to replace the aging workforce.
In closing statements, the candidates thanked each other for running a positive campaign and focusing on the issues. Following the debate, Dawon announced his Balance and Accountability tour will continue through the month of October. He has an event planned for Kossuth County on Sunday, October 18th in Algona.
