–The 78th annual Algona Band Day festival is set for Saturday, and after weeks of rain and dreary weather, tomorrow’s forecast calls for ideal conditions.

The Tornado Alley Run/Walk kicks off the day at 8AM. Registration begins at 7:30 AM outside of Algona City Hall, as participants can choose from a 10K, 5K or 1 Mile run. Medals will be handed out for the top 3 finishers in each division.

The Band Day parade begins at 1 PM, with 13 bands and nearly 100 entries proceeding along State Street from the Algona Fire Station all the way through the downtown area. Longtime parade organizers Vicki Mallory and Kim Thilges will serve as grand marshals for this year’s parade. Officials are asking parade entrants not to throw candy in the judging area between Moore and Dodge Streets to avoid any potential collisions between band members and children.

After the parade, the Iowa Central Marching Band’s drumline will give a special performance in front of the stage while the judge’s tabulate scores and hand out awards.

The field competition will begin at 5:30 PM inside Bulldog Stadium at Algona High School.
