–The Algona Police Department unexpectedly lost one of their K9 Officers over the weekend.
Addie, an 8-year veteran of the department, had been suffering from a variety of health issues in recent weeks before she passed away on Sunday, October 4th. Addie was trained in apprehension, tracking, handler protection, evidence locating, and explosives.
Addie was planning on retiring in the Spring of 2027. She worked with Officer Grant Smith and performed many dog demonstrations for the public while serving with the Police Department.
Officer Smith says that with less than a year on the job, Addie used her skills to find evidence in the robbery/homicide at the Lu Verne Security State Bank building in 2019 and provided security during for then Vice President Mike Pence’s trip to Forest City back in 2020.
