The Algona Tornado Alley run is set to mark it’s 40th anniversary on October 1st. The race will feature a 1 mile fun run and walk starting that Saturday at 8am, as well as 5k and 10k races beginning at 8:30.
City of Algona Recreation Manager Nick Diers says putting on a road race is no simple task.
According to Diers, the city has come together to make this years road race happen.
The race route will start and end at the Algona City Hall.
In addition to the 1 mile fun run and 5k and 10k races, this years Tornado Alley run will feature a new twist.
In addition to the traditional awards for the top runners in the race, you could also be rewarded for having the best costume at the race.
All participants will receive a t-shirt, post race refreshments, and will be entered into a prize drawing after the race.
Diers says that even though preparations for October 1st are going well, he could still use more volunteers for the race.
Those looking to register for the race can do so by going to the city of Algona website or stopping by city hall. Race day registration will also be available, as the cost for the 5k and 10K will be $30, while the 1 mile fun run will be $20.
