–Kossuth Regional Health Center presented the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Wednesday, as a part of their National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week celebration.

Madison Hauswirth is this year’s recipient, a Registered Nurse who has been serving patients at KRHC since 2019. Hauswirth was nominated by her patient Hunter Berte, who delivered a baby at the hospital in December.

Hauswirth was one of 26 nurses who were nominated by a patient, family member, co-worker or anyone who has witnessed a nurse do great work. Nominations can be made year-round by filling out the form online at www.krhc.com or by mailing it to Deb Hansen at 1515 South Phillips Street, Algona, Iowa, 50511.

The DAISY Foundation was created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who suffered from auto-immune disease. While Barnes was hospitalized, his nurses not only gave him great medical care, but they also treated him with exceptional kindness and compassion. His family wanted to create something in his memory, so they established the DAISY Foundation, which recognizes outstanding nurses who display super-human work with patients and families.
