–Law Enforcement Officers arrested a Swea City man Tuesday afternoon after investigating a separate incident nearby.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies were called to investigate a complaint at the corner of Ash and 3rd Street in Swea City around 12:45 PM Tuesday. While completing that call, Deputies observed a young male and female that appeared to be arguing near the corner of 3rd and 1st Avenue.

When Deputies approached the male subject, he fled on foot and allegedly attempted to hide a backpack he was carrying at the time. Deputies were eventually able to detain the suspect, and determined there was a handgun inside the backpack.

While Deputies were attempting to arrest the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Timothy Michael Nelson of Swea City, he allegedly assaulted two Officers and attempted to damage their patrol vehicle by kicking at the doors and windows.

Nelson is facing charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, two counts of Assault on a Peace Officer, Trespassing, and Interference with Official Acts. He was booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance.
