–The Algona City Council approved the purchase of the former Motor Inn building during their meeting Monday evening. City Administrator Jacob Tjaden addressed the council, and discussed how the city will use the building.

The street department currently operates out of the facility located at 907 N. Hall Street. The need for additional space was identified back in 2020 as a part of the city’s strategic plan. In 2021, ATURA Architecture conducted a feasibility study to identify facility needs and evaluate potential building sites. That study concluded that expansion to the current street facility was not feasible, due to site restraints and the high costs of relocating underground utility structures. The timeline for the move will depend on sitework and property improvements. The city will work on designs this winter, with work on the facility anticipated to begin in 2024.
