Supervisors Discuss Zoning of Hazardous Liquid Pipelines

–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors began the process of amending the county’s zoning ordinance that would regulate the use of land for the transportation of hazardous liquid through a pipeline during their meeting Tuesday morning. The county’s Planning and Zoning Commission made recommendations to the Supervisors earlier this year that would require certain distances be maintained between hazardous liquid pipelines and any homes or buildings nearby. The board held discussions on those recommendations over the summer, but never took any official action on them. Area resident Matt Dornbier asked the board to resume those discussions Tuesday morning and adopt the recommendations.

The board is scheduled to meet again on Thursday morning, at which time they will set a public hearing date to receive comments on the proposed changes. The hearing on Summit Carbon Solutions permit application for a carbon capture pipeline is scheduled to resume in Fort Dodge next week. The pipeline would travel through southern Kossuth County if constructed.
