–A case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza has been confirmed in Kossuth County.

Officials with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship as well as the US Department of Agriculture announced late Tuesday afternoon the first case in the county since April of 2022.

According to the news release, the positive case is a farm with game bird pheasants, peafowl, and commercial layer chickens.

Commercial and backyard flock owners are reminded to prevent contact between their birds and wild birds. Sick birds or unusual deaths among birds should be immediately reported to state or federal officials. Biosecurity resources are available at www.iowaagriculture.gov.

If producers have concerns about their flocks, they should contact their local veterinarian immediately, with possible cases reported to state officials by calling 515-281-5305.
