–A Central Iowa man was cited following the report of a vehicle fire near Wesley Sunday night.
According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency crews responded to the report of a vehicle fire near the intersection of County Road B40 and 210th Avenue just before 8:30 PM. The accident report states that nobody was inside or near the vehicle when emergency crews arrived, so a search of the area was conducted to try and find the driver.
Law Enforcement officers used the remnants of a burned license to obtain a name, and eventually identified the driver as 54-year-old Michael Dean Rosenmeyer of Urbandale.
Rosenmeyer told law enforcement that he had attempted to conduct a 3-point turn in the road, and had accidentally backed into the west ditch just north of B40. The 2006 Ford Super Crew truck got stuck where the ditch meets the road, and as he attempted to get free, the tires began to spin and the truck overheated, causing the fire.
The accident report states that Rosenmeyer walked away from the burning vehicle and did not notify anyone of the fire, as that was reported by a passing motorist. Rosenmeyer was cited for Failure to Maintain Control, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Failure to provide proof of financial liability.
Damage to the truck was estimated to be $8,000.
