–The City of Algona is considering the establishment of an Urban Forest Utility as a way to help cover costs associated with tree maintenance and removal. City Administrator Jacob Tjaden explained the concept to the City Council during a work session this week.

Tjaden says the initial cost would be minimal and could be increased in coming years.

Tjaden says the city is paying more each year to remove or maintain trees in the city’s parks and within the right of way.

City staff will finalize the language over the coming weeks before presenting it to the council for action in the new year.
