–A fundraising effort to benefit the victims of a fatal house fire in Burt has reached nearly one-third of its goal over the last week.

Last Thursday evening, Emergency personnel from across Kossuth County responded to a house fire in Burt that claimed the life of 79-year-old Marvin Tripp. Tripp’s wife Donna survived the blaze but has been hospitalized since the incident. The State Fire Marshall’s Office is trying to determine what started the fatal blaze.

The fundraising effort was organized by the Algona Hy-Vee store, where Donna has been a long-time employee.

As of this morning, the fundraising effort has brought in nearly $24,000 on a goal of $75,000.
