–Local hotel/motel tax receipts were up over $20,000 in 2023 as compared to the year before, topping the $190,000 mark. The funds are split up between the City of Algona, the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce, the Algona Area Economic Development Corporation and the Camp Algona POW Museum. Chamber Director Vicki Mallory presented their report to the city council this week on how they used their share of the funding.
Jerry Yochum with the POW Museum also spoke to the council, and he says they saw a record number of over 3,000 visitors this year.
The tax is split up with 25% going to the chamber of commerce, 15% to the AAEDC, 20% to the POW Museum, 20% to the city’s parks department, and 20% going to the city’s general fund. Hotel/motel tax receipts have tripled over the last 10-years in Algona.
