–Area Legislators fielded questions on a variety of topics during a forum hosted by the Algona Chamber of Commerce Saturday morning. State Senator Dave Rowley was joined by Representatives Henry Stone and John Wills for the forum at the Algona Public Library, where the Governor’s proposal to reform Area Education Agencies across the state was discussed for over half of the hour. Rowley told those in attendance the initial rollout of the Governor’s proposal combined a pair of issues that need some time to unravel.
Representative Henry Stone stated that the two issues need to be dealt with separately.
Iowa currently has nine AEA regions, a number Governor Reynolds has said is too high. She is also proposing Iowa raised starting pay for teachers to a minimum of $50,000 per year.
