Northwest Iowa Man Facing Weapons Charges

–A Northwest Iowa man was taken into custody late last week following an incident in western Palo Alto County.

According to the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to a 911 call around 10:15 PM Friday, March 29th reporting a disturbance near Silver Lake, 6 miles south of Ruthven. The report indicated that the subject involved in the disturbance was armed with a handgun.

Upon arrival, Deputies conducted a brief investigation and arrested 22-year-old Gavin Leng of Primghar on a charge of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, an aggravated misdemeanor. Leng was booked into the Palo Alto County Jail to await an initial court appearance. Online court records show he is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, April 9th in Palo Alto County District Court.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Emmetsburg Police Department, the Iowa State Patrol, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Pocahontas Police Department. No injuries were reported to anyone associated with the discharge of the firearm.
