–Heavy rains overnight are causing headaches for Kossuth County residents as roads have been washed out and basements are filled with water. During the Kossuth County Board of Supervisors meeting this morning, County Engineer Doug Miller told the board he had been out early trying to survey damage.
Areas along Highway 18 from Algona to Wesley are reporting more than 5-inches of rain from last night through this morning, causing rivers and streams to rise and small lakes to form where dry ground normally sits.
Emergency Management officials Calhoun County brought a special pump to Wesley this morning to help remove water from homes and yards in that community. Area residents are reminded to document any flood damage they may have in their homes as a result of these storms. When it comes to safety, residents are reminded not to remove barricades from any road that is closed due to high water. Not only is it illegal, but you can severely damage your vehicle, and possibly lose your life.
