Supervisors Won’t Revisit Wind Ordinance

–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors held a brief discussion during their meeting this week as to whether they would like to revisit the county’s wind energy ordinance. The discussion came after a wind company official approached Supervisor Roger Tjarks to see if the county would consider any changes to the current regulations. Tjarks brought the information to the board for their discussion, but in the end, they voted unanimously to maintain the ordinance as it currently sits. Board Chairman Kyle Stecker says now is not the time to reopen this matter.

Supervisor Jack Plathe says the county is losing possible tax revenue right now, and adding turbines would not help.

The current ordinance limits the amount of power that can be generated by windfarms in Kossuth County, and the turbines in place meet that threshold. The ordinance would have to be amended to up that number to add any more wind energy projects in Kossuth County.
