–Algona Municipal Utilities will host a special community celebration Wednesday evening in honor of their 135th anniversary. AMU Marketing Director Bob Jennings tells KLGA News they are excited to continue serving the community, something they have done since the late 1800’s.

When the electric utility was established in 1898, Ambrose A. Call, one of the founders of Algona, served on the original Electric Light Committee. The communications utility got its start after it was approved by voters in 1997, with the first customers receiving service in 2002. Jennings says the celebration will honor the company’s history, while providing a look at what they’re doing now, and what they will do in the future.

The community celebration will run from 4-7 PM Wednesday outside the AMU office on Call Street in downtown Algona, free and open to the public.
