–Cleanup continues around the area as torrential rainfall has caused major flooding across much of Northwest Iowa. Algona City Administrator Jacob Tjaden spoke with KLGA’s Al Lauck Monday morning, and he says for the most part, Algona has been fortunate.

Tjaden says a couple of low-lying areas in Algona have been cut off by floodwaters.

Tjaden says emergency crews want to remind the public not to drive through roads that have posted barricades.

City crews were out in full force over the weekend, both before the rain started and after it finished.

Kossuth County Engineer Doug Miller also took part in the conversation, and he says they will have to wait until the water recedes to assess the damage.

Both Tjaden and Miller reiterated calls from Emergency Personnel to avoid roads that have water over them, and not to remove barricades or drive around them. It is hard to judge the depth of the water or how fast it’s moving, and you will not be able to tell the condition of the road surface underneath.
