–The City of Algona announced this week that longtime Chamber of Commerce Director Vicki Mallory will be stepping down from her position later this year. In an interview with KLGA News, Mallory says the decision to step away from the job she has held for over 30-years was not an easy one to make.

Mallory took over as Chamber Director in April of 1993, and she says one of the biggest changes over the last 3 decades is the technology used in and out of the office.

The Chamber plays a leading role in organizing many community events, one of the biggest and longest running is the annual Band Day Festival, which was first held in 1948. Mallory says one of the things she is most proud of is helping to start the annual “Founder’s Day” celebration, something that started after Algona hosted RAGBRAI back in 1999.

Mallory says the reality of her decision to step away hits home a bit more when she thinks about organizing events like “Founder’s Day” for the final time.

Mallory says she still isn’t quite sure what she will do with her time once she is done at the chamber.

The search for Mallory’s replacement will begin soon, with the hope that person can be in place and train with her before she is officially done in December.
