SE Iowa Man Injured in Motorcycle Crash Near Wesley

–A Southeast Iowa man had to be airlifted after crashing his motorcycle early Thursday morning near Wesley.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 62-year-old George Wayne Simons of Nichols, Iowa was traveling westbound along US Highway 18 on a 1990 Harley-Davidson Motorcycle around 5:45 AM.

The accident report states that Simons left the traveled portion of the roadway near the intersection with 240th Avenue north of Wesley and continued traveling west bound through the ditch before striking a DOT street sign. After striking the sign, Simons hit the ground in the ditch.

He was taken by Mercy Air to MercyOne Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City with what were described as serious injuries.

Damage to his motorcycle was estimated at $3,000, while damage to the DOT sign was estimated at $100.

The accident remains under investigation.
