–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors repealed a motion Tuesday that would have included a 2% pay increase for county employees not covered by union contracts in a budget amendment for the current fiscal year. The board cited legal advice as the reason for dropping the proposed increase, and then instructed the County Auditor to draw up a budget amendment that will restore funding to the county’s libraries. Board Chairman Kyle Stecker says they have a couple options to find the money to restore funding to the libraries.
The board also met in closed session Tuesday with County Attorney Todd Holmes to discuss whether they legally had the authority to approve a 75% budget cut to the county’s Emergency Management Commission. Algona Mayor Rick Murphy serves as the chairman of the EMC, and he raised concerns over the cuts last week.
