–The Algona Community School District is going through an unforeseen growth spurt, as administrators tally up their certified enrollment. Superintendent Joe Carter addressed the school board during their meeting Monday night, and he says they did not see this increase when they tried to project numbers for budgeting purposes.
The district currently has some1,448 students in grades K-12, a significant increase from just over 1,300 back in 2022. Carter says part of that jump is the reorganization with Lu Verne, which added close to 100 students into the certified enrollment.
Carter says they will continue to project student numbers conservatively for coming years as they don’t exactly know where the increase is coming from at this time.
Certified enrollment is important for the district because it is the number used by the state hand out per-pupil funding. Schools that see a decrease in enrollment will have less state money to work with the following year.
