–An Algona man is facing multiple charges following the report of a traffic accident last week near West Bend.
According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to the report of an accident in the rural West Bend area just after 8AM on Wednesday, October 16th. After conducting a brief investigation, Deputies arrested the driver, identified as 33-year-old Samuel Jude Norland of Algona.
The accident report states that Norland was traveling northbound on Iowa Highway 15 and crossed the centerline, striking a southbound semi driven by 38-year-old Dustin Cribb. Cribb told Deputies he saw the Norland vehicle cross the centerline but was unable to avoid the collision. A witness told Deputies that the Norland vehicle was all over the road and almost hit a different southbound vehicle prior to this collision.
Norland is facing charges of OWI 1st offense and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana)-1st offense, both Serious Misdemeanors. He is also facing a charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor, along with Failure to Maintain Control and Driving on the Wrong Side of a Two-Lane Highway.
Online records do not indicate when Norland will make an initial court appearance.
