–Several area businesses were targeted with scam phone calls this week, with the caller claiming to be from Algona Municipal Utilities and demanding an immediate payment to prevent disconnection. AMU General Manager John Bilsten tells KLGA News that they would never call a customer and demand immediate payment over the phone.
Bilsten says if your business is contacted in this manner, or if you receive this type of call at home, do not give out any type of payment information.
Law Enforcement officials say it is extremely important to not give out any personal or financial information, because tracking these scam calls can prove difficult.
