–No injuries were reported following a two-vehicle accident near Lakota earlier this morning.
According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 78-year-old Susan Schwanke of Elmore, Minnesota was traveling southbound on US Highway 169 in a 2010 Ford Edge just before 9:30 AM.
Schwanke stopped at the intersection with Iowa Highway 9 and then pulled out in front of Semi-trailer fully loaded with grain, driven by 75-year-old Cordell Satre of Buffalo Center.
Satre slowed the semi to avoid a collision but ended up striking the Schwarnke vehicle in the rear when it slowed down to turn on to 3rd Street in Lakota. Schwarnke ended up leaving the roadway and came to rest in the middle of a field.
Neither driver reported any injuries following the collision. Damage to Schwarnke’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500, while damage to the semi was estimated at $1,000.
