–Two area men were arrested on burglary charges Wednesday afternoon following an incident in northern Kossuth County.
According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies arrested 52-year-old David William Johnson of Algona and 36-year-old Joseph Edward Lilly of Lu Verne on charges of 3rd Degree Burglary, a Class D Felony.
A criminal complaint filed in Kossuth County District Court states that law enforcement was called to 1807 490th Street, 2 miles south of the Iowa-Minnesota border, after the owner reported seeing two males on camera inside his home around 1 PM. Deputies were able to identify Johnson and Lilly from photos provided by the owner, and learned the pair had left the area on a side-by-side UTV.
A short time later, they were located by law enforcement two miles from the residence and admitted to being inside the home. Deputies were able to recover the stolen items a short distance from where they found Johnson and Lilly.
Both defendants were booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance and each is scheduled to have a preliminary court hearing on Monday, April 6th.
