Iowa Lakes Community College will host an informational session, Parkinson’s Disease: A Mental Health Approach, on Thursday, May 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. on the Emmetsburg Campus.
The session will take place in Room 17 on the Emmetsburg Campus. Cost is $10 for the public and $49 for healthcare professionals seeking CEH credit.

The session is designed to provide a deeper understanding of Parkinson’s disease beyond physical symptoms, with a focus on the emotional and cognitive challenges individuals may experience. Participants will gain practical knowledge to better support those living with the disease through a compassionate and informed approach.
Dr. Martha Olson will serve as the presenter, guiding attendees through key topics including disease progression, movement and non-movement challenges, pain management strategies, mental health considerations, treatment options such as Deep Brain Stimulation, and the role of interdisciplinary care.
