–In an effort to fight the rising cancer rates in Iowa, a scholarship fund is now available to help businesses or individuals who are interested in becoming certified in radon services. Cede Becker is a Registered Nurse in the Community Health Department at Kossuth Regional Health Center, and she tells KLGA News they are partnering with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services to help cover training costs.
This opportunity is especially suited for professionals working in construction, building design, contracting, HVAC, plumbing, or environmental health fields. Becker says homeowners in our area have a hard time finding someone to treat any radon problems they may have.
Radon poses a problem because it is naturally occurring, invisible, and odorless.
Anyone interested in becoming a radon mitigation specialist can apply for funding through Community Health, but Becker says they don’t have to be a Kossuth County resident.
The application includes a list of approved online courses required to complete certification. Those interested can contact Kossuth County Community Health by calling 515-295-4430 to request an application or by going online to https://forms.cloud.microsoft/g/5kS2NTSzQL.
