The 2026 edition of the Iowa Shrine Bowl Football game will feature some faces familiar to high school football fans in Kossuth County, with Bishop Garrigan’s Carter Schwab and Tate Foertsch, as well as Algona’s Evan Allie set to play in the game, with Bishop Garrigan Head Coach Marty Wadle coaching the North all-star team.
The Shrine Bowl is an annual all-star football game recognizing senior athletes across the state of Iowa, with 2026 marking the Shrine Bowl’s 54th year. The game also serves as a fundraiser for the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
Wadle, who is the head coach of this year’s North team after serving as an assistant coach in the 2009 Shrine Bowl, says he was honored to be offered the opportunity.
Joining Wadle on the North coaching staff are Ankeny’s Jeff Bauer, Webster City’s Andy Brim, Kadrian Hardersen of Hinton, Ryan Rezac of Estherville Lincoln Central, Ryan Schwiesow from West Sioux, and Decorah’s Michael Tangen.
When putting together a staff, Wadle had to take into consideration getting a representative from each class, as well as choosing coaches who haven’t had the opportunity to coach in the Shrine Bowl yet.
Carter Schwab, who is committed to Northwestern College, is one of two Golden Bears who will be playing in the game. Schwab finished second on Bishop Garrigan in tackles and led the team in sacks while playing defensive end, while also starting at left guard, where he was a first team all-state selection by the Iowa Football Coaches Association.
Joining Schwab on the North team is 8-man’s Player of the Year Tate Foertsch. Foertsch ran for 1162 yards and 22 touchdowns in the 2025 season, while passing for 25 more scores with only one pick. On defense, Foertsch led all classes by intercepting 10 passes. Foertsch was added to the North roster, which needed a replacement for a player who was no longer participating in the game. Wadle says the Central College commit and Cooper DeJean trophy finalist was always on the short list of players who could be added to the roster.
Algona’s Evan Allie will also compete for the North team. Allie, who is committed to Upper Iowa University, averaged nearly 16 yards per reception in 2025 for the Bulldogs, recording 408 receiving yards, coming off of a 786 yard season the year prior, and a 744 yard rushing season in 2023.
The Shrine Bowl game kicks off at 4 P.M. on Saturday, July 25th at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, coming at the tail end of a weeklong camp leading into the game.
