Eleven months ago residents of Clay County approved an Emergency Medical Services levy and an advisory committee is searching for the best way to make sure an ambulance is always available for rural residents of the county. Board of Supervisor’s Chairman Barry Anderson says the Spencer Hospital’s ambulance service currently coordinates with EMS volunteers in rural areas of Clay County when there’s an emergency.
Anderson says county officials will meet later this month to design the document for bidders seeking to run an ambulance service funded by the new levy, which is projected to raise nearly one MILLION dollars a year.
Currently, 21 counties in Iowa have approved EMS levies to boost emergency response times in rural areas. Voters in Kossuth County passed a levy to fund EMS service in 2022.
