–A fundraising effort to provide inclusive playground equipment at an Emmetsburg Elementary School received a large gift this week.
Summit Carbon Solutions has announced they are making a $5,000 contribution for the efforts at West Elementary. The Partners in Education (PIE) group has been raising funds since the summer of 2022 to replace the old playground equipment, which was removed due to safety concerns.
The money is being used to purchase new equipment, which will include a fitness challenge course, a wheelchair-accessible covered tunnel, a sensory tunnel and stationary musical instruments.
The playground at West Elementary serves nearly 300 students on a daily basis during the school year. The goal is to have the new, inclusive equipment installed this spring.
