Regional golf competitions have wrapped up around the state of Iowa, and three area athletes are set to continue their season at next week’s state championship competitions.

In class 1A, North Union’s Olivia Von Bank and Bishop Garrigan’s Avery Lichter both golfed at the region 2 meet hosted at the Spring Valley Golf Course in Algona. In order to qualify for state, teams must finish in the top 2 at regionals, and individual athletes need to finish in the top 6. Von Bank finished her day with a score of 92, good enough for fourth place and trip to next week’s state competition. Lichter finished two strokes behind Von Bank at 96, taking the final individual qualifying spot for the region. Lichter has competed at class 1A state each of the past two seasons for Bishop Garrigan teams that won state titles, placing 33rd in 2021 and 31st in 2022.

In class 3A, Algona’s whole team competed at region 1 in Storm Lake, taking 7th, as Abby Brooks individually qualified for state, placing 5th with an 18 hole total of 86. Faith Huber and Waverly Espe both shot 110s for Algona, while Faith Zeller wrapped up her season with a 112.

State golf will be a two-day competition from May 26th-27th. Class 1A will compete at the Cedar Pointe Golf Course, while 3A takes place at the Pheasant Ridge Golf Course.
