–With many trees around town being removed as a part the City of Algona’s Emerald Ash Borer mitigation plan, city officials are reminding residents of the regulations in place for planting a new tree. Deputy City Administrator Barb Smith tells KLGA News that the city and Algona Municipal Utilities have teamed up to held residents with the costs associated with tree planting.

Smith says if you want to plant or replant a tree within the right-of-way, the rules become a bit more stringent.

Smith says they have a list of tree species that can be planted available for residents to check before they make any plans.

If you have questions about the tree program, you can call city hall at 515-295-2411. You can view the list of eligible trees online at www.algonaiowa.gov.
