–The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Department is looking to add another Deputy, an officer of the four-legged variety. Sheriff Roger Fisher tells KLGA News they are beginning the process of adding another K9 Deputy to their roster.

Fisher says they will be purchasing the new dog from Tree Town Kennels out of Forest City, as they have had previous success with them.

Fisher discussed his reasoning for wanting to add another K9 Deputy to their patrol operations.

Fisher says the fact that this K9 will be trained for narcotics searches only means it will cost less for the Department to train the dog and the new handler, while also getting them on the road sooner.

Fisher says they will be doing some fundraising to help offset some of the purchase and training costs, but the majority of the funding will come from the department’s budget. He is hopeful that the new K9 Deputy can be completely trained and ready to go in 2-3 months.
